I Want To Start An Art Collection
As an artist, I've always had an interest in collecting artwork. To this day, I want to begin my artwork collection and I would love to start with collecting art from black women. Over the years, while at SCAD, I've researched various minority artists and I made it a point to write papers about artists who are women of color in particular. My papers were often filled with the historical backgrounds of individuals, their inspirations, their accomplishments and obstacles.
Some of the women that graced my papers were Nigerian-born visual artist, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Emma Amos, Laura Wheeler Waring and Amy Sherald. All, whose work I would love to own one day. So in celebration of Juneteenth, I'd love to celebrate all of the black women artists.
