It's National Arts in Education Week!

I was asked by the Medgar and Mrylie Evers Home National Monument "How did you learn about art, and how does it impact how you create and share your work today?"

Here's my answer:

I learned about art in elementary school through a fine arts program. Art days were on Thursdays, and I always looked forward to them. My art teacher genuinely cared about helping us create, and we often displayed our work at school or even at a local children’s hospital.
Those early experiences taught me to love the process of making art and the joy it can bring to others. Today, when I create, I still focus on both enjoying the process and anticipating how my work might impact someone else.

"National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education. The celebration is designated to bring attention to this cause for elected officials and educational decision makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students."
